I had a wild and crazy New Year’s Eve.

Mom, Dad, and I went to the Sea Life Aquarium at Great Lakes Crossing.  Oh, yeah, that’s how we roll.  Don’t be left behind.

It was actually a blast and we loved checking out all the fish from sharks to jellyfish to starfish to blue marlin and clownfish like Dory and Nemo!

Though it was almost fifty outside, it was freezing, so I wore my new Alexander McQueen sweater that is seriously heavy.  Really, it weights at least five pounds. It’s the first peplum piece I have and I love it.  The pencil skirt keeps things from looking too puffy.

Because seasons are nothing more than a suggestion to me when it comes to choosing what I will wear, I added a purple clutch and blue shoes for some much needed pops of color that blended in with the sea creatures and their environments perfectly.

What did you do on NYE?  Something more exciting than me I am sure 😉

Detroit has an excellent zoo, one of the best in the country, and I had only been there once … on a field trip … in grade school … that I don’t remember.

An incredibly nice, late November day of record breaking warmth meant only one thing … a trip to the zoo.

Because they close early in the fall and winter months, we couldn’t spent a lot of time there or see everything we wanted to see, but we managed to squeeze in the penguins, butterflies, birds, and a bit more on our almost two hour walk around.

I wore a casual (for me anyway) outfit including my new J Crew sweater that had arrived earlier that day.  I have a bit of an obsession with stars, so it was perfect for me and it matches my ghost charm pretty well.  I’m still so obsessed with ghostie!

Hopefully more days of record breaking warmth and fun fashion are on the way soon!

If you are a golf fan, I bet you have heard of Oakland Hills Country Club here in Southeastern Michigan.  It is one of the premier golf courses and country clubs in all of America.

And I have wanted to go there for as long as I can remember.  Finally on the last day of November, Mom and I attended a very nice charity event there.  We did some Christmas shopping, met some very nice people, and had a nice lunch (there was lemon meringue ice cream pie for dessert and it may have been the best thing I have ever eaten).

The club, decorated for Christmas, did not disappoint.  All the trees and wreaths were just stunning.  Plus, it was a sixty degree day with the sun shining so we walked out by the golf course which was beautiful.  We wished lunch was held out there it was such a nice day.

I picked up this dress at Saks on sale recently (and it’s still available online if you are interested).  I love that it has such a unique agate pattern and it garnered complements all day because it’s different.  I know women love wearing black but it can be so blah.  This is anything but.

Because I was headed to a fancy event, I wore my fanciest crystal Louboutins that don’t get out enough.  they sparkled just as much as the club.

This outfit is also perfect for New Year’s Eve.  It is shiny and sparkly and festive but a bit warmer than most of the sleeveless and strapless dresses that fill my closet.

What do you wear when you are attending a special event?

Cozy Christmas #FashionFriday

Cozy Christmas #FashionFriday

Going out in the winter is one of my least favorite things to do.  It’s cold and cloudy and generally gross.  But when I have to, trust me, I keep it to a minimum, I very much enjoy wearing this Burberry cape.

It’s basically an adult blanket that is super fashionable and appropriate to wear out.  When I’m all wrapped up in it, it is really warm, and it goes with just about anything.  It almost makes chilly weather tolerable … almost.

These photos were taken at our local cider mill.  It’s a hot spot when it is open from Labor Day to right around Thanksgiving.  It’s an old school place with some serious cider pressing skills.  And cozy vibes to match the cape and super wearable jersey dress.

I hope you all have a happy, cozy, fun, fashionable, festive Christmas!!

Ladies Who Lunch #FashionFriday

Back in October when there wasn’t any snow on the ground (ah, the good old days), Mom and I went to an event at the Townsend Hotel.  It’s the hot spot for all the celebrities to stay when they are in town and a beautiful setting for the fashion show.

After we even sat in the Rugby Grille by the windows watching the rain fall on the flowers still in bloom.  We had cocktails and dessert and it was a lovely day.

Though well past Labor Day, I wanted to wear this white dress.  The fabric is gorgeous with inlaid mesh showing fringe inside the fabric and it fits like a glove.  Prabal Gurung is the designer whom I actually had the pleasure of meeting.  He has a great story and design aesthetic.

I paired it with one of the newest pieces I purchased, a Charlotte Simone scarf I found on sale.  The bold colors are so eye catching and it really is surprisingly warm.

Finally my blue and green spiked shoes, spiked up the blue in the scarf and were noticed all day long.

Fall Flare #FashionFriday

Fall Flare #FashionFriday

It’s been too long since a #FashionFriday post!  But I haven’t been slacking of creating fun new looks.

Fall and winter can be a time of dull colors and little embellishment, but today, I’m showing you that you can still have fun with your look.

This flared polka dotted skirt takes what could be a super boring grey sweater and made it super fashionable.

I also almost never braid my hair, but all the celebrities have been doing it and I was inspired.  It was super easy to do and I left it a bit messy on purpose.  I loved how it looked and felt very on trend for the day.

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink #FashionFriday

I did wear this on a Wednesday originally even if today is Friday.  Plus, sometimes I want to wear pink every day.  It’s such a fun, girly color and it comes in so many shades.

Baby pink is always nice and I love it paired with gray.  There is something about the way these two rather neutral colors play together that just makes me happy.

And you know I’m all about embellishment.  The crystals on this sweater jacket are so shimmery and sparkly.  The jacket is also pretty warm so it is perfect in fall.

Heart to Heart Event #FashionFriday

Heart to Heart Event #FashionFriday

You know I love a good event, an excuse to get dressed up and have a fun day out.  So when I heard about the Heart to Heart Glam Lunch and Fashion Show benefitting Beaumont Health, I was in.

As it is October and I haven’t moved to California yet (why oh why?????), it was a chilly rainy day as Mom and I headed to the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham, the swankiest hotel in the area where lots of stars stay when in town.  Luckily, they also have valet!

Mom and I bought fashion show only tickets so we arrived around noon and wondered around the ballroom and lobby while we waited for the show to begin.  Before long, it did begin and Monica Gayle from Fox 2 was the host for the afternoon.  We watch Monica and Fox 2 every day, so it was nice to see her there and even meet her.

After a few speeches about the heart center at Beaumont Hospital (did you know heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women?), the fashion show began.

Mom and Me

LK Bennett, Tapper’s, Bricker Tunis Furs, Max Mara, Halston Heritage, and Saks Fifth Avenue each showcased some of their latest fashions.  The show was great and the way it was set up was even better, with different aisles so every seat was great and we all got a nice view of each and every model.

The clothes and shoes were gorgeous, though we did notice price tags hanging off lots of pieces!  After about a half an hour of awesome fashion and music, the show ended, but the day was young, and Mom and I didn’t feel like going home.

Heart to Heart Event

We wandered around the hotel for a bit and then headed to the Rugby Grille for dessert and drinks.  Though the rain was still falling, we sat by a window, and the still blooming flowers we beautiful.  It was a lovely day and another to add to a string of just wonderful experiences this year.

Fall Colors #FashionFriday

Fall Colors #FashionFriday

The leaves on the trees are so pretty this time of year and so I let them inspire my outfit of fall colors.  Orange.  Brown.  Purple.  These warm, cozy colors are so comforting and make me feel warm inside even when it’s chilly outside.

The colors are very easy to wear and play well together.  It’s fun to mix and match some colors to keep from being drab in the fall when it’s easy to turn to super dark, neutral colors.  It’s important to me to still wear bright colors because I think they bring happiness to the world … or my world anyway.

A gold belt is really the most important part of this look. I love the color because it is so versatile, but even better is that it helps give this outfit a defined waist when a bulky sweater might otherwise look anything but streamlined.

All that Glitters #FashionFriday

All that Glitters #FashionFriday

If you know me, you know I am a big fan of glitter.  Glitter makeup.  Glitter hairspray.  Glitter nail polish.  Lots and lots of glitter.

While it can be messy, and yes, there is glitter on just about every surface of my house, glitter is fun.  It makes me feel good and smile on days that might not otherwise be so great.

All that Glitters #FashionFriday

This outfit lets glitter be the star with this fun dress with a flared skirt and high-low hem.  It is made from a metallic fabric, so no worries on glitter being everywhere, but the shine and shimmer is totally present.

Ah, and then there are the shoes!  The shape is so feminine and the gold glitter makes them go with just about everything.  I love that no matter what I am wearing, I can put on these shoes for some instant glitz.

Do you like glitter?  Does something you wear always make you feel happy?
