Taste of Troy

Taste of Troy

A couple weekends ago, we needed something to do.  Something fun and exciting and not just going to look at furniture and to the grocery store.  It was a sunny, but bitter cold day and we just wanted to do something fun.

I had mentioned Taste of Troy earlier in the week and the local meteorologist mentioned it the morning of, so on a whim we headed out to the San Marino Club in Troy for Taste of Troy, benefitting the Boys and Girls Club of Troy.

Taste of Troy

It was the twenty fifth anniversary of the event, so it’s kind of hard to believe we had never been before.  I shared my fashion last week, and now I want to talk more about the event itself.

Lots of restaurants in Troy had little booths with a dish or two from their menu.  From Greek to Italian, appetizers to desserts there was a little something for everyone.  As Mom and I were on the Whole30, options were limited for us, but the Tim Horton’s coffee definitely hit the spot.

Dad enjoyed checking out all the food, the Smashburger was among his favorites.  But the puffy taco from El Charro, the pizza from Shield’s, and gyro from Estia Greek Street Food were all hits too.

After checking out the food and silent auction, we just walked around for awhile, and it was good to be out and about.  We couldn’t leave without saying hi to our favorite local meteorologist, Andrew Humphrey.  He was even nicer in person than he seems on TV and asked me for a couple cards.  Who knows, maybe I’ll end up on Local 4.  That would be pretty awesome!

We also loved checking out the San Marino Club.  None of us had ever been there, and it is such a beautiful building.

I definitely think we will check out Taste of Troy again!

Heart to Heart Event #FashionFriday

You know I love a good event, an excuse to get dressed up and have a fun day out.  So when I heard about the Heart to Heart Glam Lunch and Fashion Show benefitting Beaumont Health, I was in.

As it is October and I haven’t moved to California yet (why oh why?????), it was a chilly rainy day as Mom and I headed to the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham, the swankiest hotel in the area where lots of stars stay when in town.  Luckily, they also have valet!

Mom and I bought fashion show only tickets so we arrived around noon and wondered around the ballroom and lobby while we waited for the show to begin.  Before long, it did begin and Monica Gayle from Fox 2 was the host for the afternoon.  We watch Monica and Fox 2 every day, so it was nice to see her there and even meet her.

After a few speeches about the heart center at Beaumont Hospital (did you know heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women?), the fashion show began.

Mom and Me

LK Bennett, Tapper’s, Bricker Tunis Furs, Max Mara, Halston Heritage, and Saks Fifth Avenue each showcased some of their latest fashions.  The show was great and the way it was set up was even better, with different aisles so every seat was great and we all got a nice view of each and every model.

The clothes and shoes were gorgeous, though we did notice price tags hanging off lots of pieces!  After about a half an hour of awesome fashion and music, the show ended, but the day was young, and Mom and I didn’t feel like going home.

We wandered around the hotel for a bit and then headed to the Rugby Grille for dessert and drinks.  Though the rain was still falling, we sat by a window, and the still blooming flowers we beautiful.  It was a lovely day and another to add to a string of just wonderful experiences this year.

Wine, Women, and Shoes

Wine Women and Shoes

Last week Mom and I had the chance to attend the Wine, Women, and Shoes event at the Dearborn Inn to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation. It’s always great to have a fun time and support an even better cause.

It was perhaps the most beautiful late September evening. It was warm, sunny on the drive there, and the moon even came out to greet us. It seriously does not get better than that. Plus, traffic wasn’t even that bad. Woo hoo!

The Moon

Once we arrived, we checked in and got out photo taken with SnapTap. This may be the coolest thing ever. We’ve seen them at a couple events now. We pose for an awesome picture and then they print a copy and email us a copy. It’s a great way to have a keepsake from the event that’s not taken on a camera phone.

We met up with our friend (who also happens to be our dentist) as well as her friend, and then started perusing the marketplace. There was plenty of wine, as well as some other local goods, but in one room, it was like a little one-stop mall. You could even try on shoes!

Then we found the jewelry from a local store. They had some absolutely gorgeous pieces, but one in particular caught mom’s eye and then mine. A delicate moon and star gold bracelet with diamonds had to come home with us. At least a portion of the price also went to the charity. Mom and I love the moon and stars and look for them each evening, so I feel like maybe this is my new good luck charm.

Once we were shopped out, we headed to the ballroom where I ran into one of my seventh and eighth grade teachers. How crazy cool is that? Soon after taking our seats, even emcee and local newscaster Heather Catallo took the stage. She introduced the auctioneer for our live auction. I’ve never seen a live auction, so it was pretty cool even if the items weren’t really my cup of tea … or glass of wine 😉

Finally the fashion show began. Carson’s presented it and made me want each look. It’s really amazing how they paired so many different things together and they looked awesome.  I seriously need to go shopping to update my wardrobe!

Fashion Show

I wished the evening didn’t have to end, but at least I have lots of memories and I’m already looking forward to going again next year.
