Real talk today.

I love fashion and clothes and outfits and creating looks and I love sharing them here on my blog.  That side of me is more my passion than food even, I have realized.

In order to show you my looks, I have to take pictures.  Mom or Dad takes them, depending on whom I am out with.  We try to stay out of other people’s way and mind our own business.

For some reason, other people don’t feel the same way.  I think it has something to do with where we live.  People don’t understand dressing up, taking pictures, posing like a model (California dreamin’ harder than ever).  They don’t understand that I can be a model without actually being a model.  Like so many other popular fashion bloggers out there, I am trying to build a brand and make a name for myself.  I am proud of this dedication, not embarrassed by it.

While a recent heckler (I don’t know what else to call him shouting “picture” and such) was an annoyance, it was a lady on the day these photos were taken that really upset me.

After getting my hair done (shout out to Alex Emilio Salon in Royal Oak!) and dining at Triple Nickel in Birmingham, Mom and I stopped for a couple groceries on our way home.  It was a chilly, rainy, generally pretty nasty evening.  As we were about to walk in, I thought the umbrella would make for some cute pictures.

So we stopped under and awning and took a few.  A lady stopped in the middle of this weather to share some nastiness of her own.  Talking about how it didn’t make sense I had sunglasses on with an umbrella.  It’s raining.  She kept saying it over and over, for maybe a minute, taking time to stop on her trip to the grocery store to try to bring me down.

It worked for a bit, but not too long because I am sharing these pictures.  I am proud of them, not in a stuck up, look at me kind of way, but in a this is me and my style, not what I saw in a magazine or on a celebrity.  This is who I am.  And I don’t think I’m so bad.

The sunglasses kind of make this look awesome.  And if you meet me, there’s a good chance I’ll be wearing them.  Sunnies are my jam in any kind of weather 🙂

Here’s to spreading compliments and positivity, not hate and negativity!

I don’t know why, but this dress makes me feel all romantic.  The colors are pinks and red and it’s fun and flirty and the pattern looks like hearts to me.

I have loved this dress for a looooooong time.  First on Net-a-Porter where it eventually went on sale, and then on The Outnet where I finally took the plunge.

Rhythm of the Heartbeat #FashionFriday

It’s not Mom’s favorite dress and I almost returned it, but honestly, I just love it way too much to do that.  I got it for a (relative) steal and love that it is comfortable, easy to wear, and long sleeved.  Long sleeved dresses are so underrated.

I paired it with red lipstick and red Loubis to enhance the colors.  My Burberry Bee didn’t really match, but I wanted to carry it and sometimes we should do what we want.

I also wanted to debut the adorable Trench Teddy bag charm Dad bought for me when we were at Somerset not too long ago.  It was such a fun day and a great memory and I had wanted one of those charms FOREVER.

Last year I bought like four blue dresses and blue is so not my favorite color.  Even if I love the dresses.

I love purple, and Mom bought me this fun purple dress for my birthday.  I love love love the color.  It’s so rich and vibrant.  The flirty ruffled hem doesn’t hurt either.

I broke it out of the closet this past weekend when we made a last minute decision to go to Taste of Troy, more on that in the upcoming weeks.  It’s a charity event to benefit the Boys and Girls club of Troy and has been held for 25 years, but it was our first time attending.

It was super fun!  In the middle of my Whole30, I stuck to Tim Horton’s coffee, which was surprisingly amazing, and let Dad do all the eating.  But still, it was great to have something fun to do on a super chilly day that otherwise would have been spent running errands.

Layering necklaces always appeals to me and this dress was the perfect time to try it out.  Since the dress is sleeveless, I knew I’d be leaving my coat on, but I made it part of my look and tried not to wish for warmer weather too desperately.

Do you like purple?

Both of my parents worked for Ford for many years, so it kind of runs in my blood.  The Dearborn area is basically Ford city with many office building, including their world headquarters, located there.  There are also public attractions like The Henry Ford, a museum dedicated to American innovation, something Henry Ford himself is well known for.

It’s a great place to spend a day with rotating exhibits, currently one on fashion and one on cars with their hoods open to look at the engine, as well as staples on furniture and more cars.  This is the Detroit area we’re talking about here.

It also happened to be a beautiful January day on my visit.  It was sixty and the sun poked out for most of the day.  Score.

So I broke out one of my birthday presents, a find from Net-a-Porter’s sale, a black Victoria Beckham dress.  I am not usually a black dress kind of girl, but with the flared skirt and extraordinary fit, it was hard to turn this one down.

Ford Girl #FashionFriday

I paired it with sparkly shoes with the most amazing structure and silhouette.  Plus, a pop of color from my bag and my favorite cape aka adult blanket because sixty in January is still chilly.

It’s a classic look I can’t wait to wear again and again.  This classic setting was perfect for its debut.

Earlier this week, I shared about our recent dinner at Parc and now I’m back with a look at my fashion that evening as well as the wonderful ambiance in Campus Martius.

We went because it was the last weekend for the Christmas tree to be up to go along with all the other lighted trees and the super busy ice rink.  There is a fire pit with that wonderful campfire smell and great music playing.

Campus Martius

Too bad it was absolutely freezing out and we couldn’t spend more time outside due to the bone chilling temperatures and winds.

I wore my sparkly blue dress to be festive and paired it with even more sparkly pumps that are “dinner shoes” aka not the most comfortable or easiest to walk in.  my favorite grey wrap and purse rounded out the look.

Red lipstick is one of my musts in winter.  Though I have been experimenting with darker colors, which I have always loved, red adds that pop of color and really makes a look feel complete.

Do you wear red lipstick?

If you are a golf fan, I bet you have heard of Oakland Hills Country Club here in Southeastern Michigan.  It is one of the premier golf courses and country clubs in all of America.

And I have wanted to go there for as long as I can remember.  Finally on the last day of November, Mom and I attended a very nice charity event there.  We did some Christmas shopping, met some very nice people, and had a nice lunch (there was lemon meringue ice cream pie for dessert and it may have been the best thing I have ever eaten).

The club, decorated for Christmas, did not disappoint.  All the trees and wreaths were just stunning.  Plus, it was a sixty degree day with the sun shining so we walked out by the golf course which was beautiful.  We wished lunch was held out there it was such a nice day.

I picked up this dress at Saks on sale recently (and it’s still available online if you are interested).  I love that it has such a unique agate pattern and it garnered complements all day because it’s different.  I know women love wearing black but it can be so blah.  This is anything but.

Because I was headed to a fancy event, I wore my fanciest crystal Louboutins that don’t get out enough.  they sparkled just as much as the club.

This outfit is also perfect for New Year’s Eve.  It is shiny and sparkly and festive but a bit warmer than most of the sleeveless and strapless dresses that fill my closet.

What do you wear when you are attending a special event?

Back in October when there wasn’t any snow on the ground (ah, the good old days), Mom and I went to an event at the Townsend Hotel.  It’s the hot spot for all the celebrities to stay when they are in town and a beautiful setting for the fashion show.

After we even sat in the Rugby Grille by the windows watching the rain fall on the flowers still in bloom.  We had cocktails and dessert and it was a lovely day.

Though well past Labor Day, I wanted to wear this white dress.  The fabric is gorgeous with inlaid mesh showing fringe inside the fabric and it fits like a glove.  Prabal Gurung is the designer whom I actually had the pleasure of meeting.  He has a great story and design aesthetic.

I paired it with one of the newest pieces I purchased, a Charlotte Simone scarf I found on sale.  The bold colors are so eye catching and it really is surprisingly warm.

Finally my blue and green spiked shoes, spiked up the blue in the scarf and were noticed all day long.

All that Glitters #FashionFriday

All that Glitters #FashionFriday

If you know me, you know I am a big fan of glitter.  Glitter makeup.  Glitter hairspray.  Glitter nail polish.  Lots and lots of glitter.

While it can be messy, and yes, there is glitter on just about every surface of my house, glitter is fun.  It makes me feel good and smile on days that might not otherwise be so great.

All that Glitters #FashionFriday

This outfit lets glitter be the star with this fun dress with a flared skirt and high-low hem.  It is made from a metallic fabric, so no worries on glitter being everywhere, but the shine and shimmer is totally present.

Ah, and then there are the shoes!  The shape is so feminine and the gold glitter makes them go with just about everything.  I love that no matter what I am wearing, I can put on these shoes for some instant glitz.

Do you like glitter?  Does something you wear always make you feel happy?

We'll Be Counting Stars #FashionFriday

Mom and I are very into the moon and stars and planets.  Really she got me interested in them.  There’s something mystical and reassuring about those gleaming lights in the night sky.  And though we don’t live in the middle of nowhere, there are lots of stars in the sky at night.

Because of this passion for stars and such, I love buying pieces with similar symbolism.  They are meaningful and reassuring for me.  A sign that everything is going to be okay.

This dress is so perfect for fall.  I love the star print and the fun flirty vibe about it.  In fact, it must be super flirty – a guy at the mall whistled at me while wearing it the other day (no complaints here!).  Plus, the dress is super comfortable.

Anya Hindmarch Ghost Charm

I paired it with my favorite bag, shoes, and sunglasses, but I added my new ghost bag charm.  I was obsessed with it when Moda Operandi had it forever ago but for whatever reason I didn’t buy it.  I was on the hunt since then and found it at Neiman Marcus.

It’s so adorable and I love the funky vibe of having a Pac Man ghost on my bag.  Those eyes <3

Do you wear symbols that are important to you?

Can you believe this dress is about twelve years old?  It’s basically vintage!  And it’s only gotten better with age.

Though I don’t get to wear it as much as I would like, this floral dress just screams summer to me.  The bright colors, the white base, the strapless neckline, the flared skirt.  It is girly and pretty and fun and one of my favorite things to wear in the warmer months.

I kept the same vibe of the dress with pink platform sandals and another “vintage” find from my own closet: a white Louis Vuitton.  This was my favorite purse when I first purchased it and I really should carry it more because it is still so beautiful.  It’s structured yet playful.

Floral Fun

I really don’t want summer to end so I can keep wearing all of my favorite clothes.  But until I can escape to somewhere with year round warmth, I am so grateful for the beautiful weather while it is here and I am not going to waste a second of it.
