When I’m putting together any outfit, but especially one for a night out, I think about all the pieces. Sure the dress and shoes are obvious, but it’s how they will pair with a bag and jewelry, my hairstyle, and even my makeup. A last minute change in an outfit can mean extra time changing lipstick and bag before heading out the door.
And lately I have had a few too many moments when my outfit did not come together at the last minute.
Luckily with this outfit that was not the case. I didn’t have to think on my feet and pivot – it all worked, in part because this outfit is filled with a lot of standby favorites.
It begins with the dress Carolina Herrera herself helped me pick out over a DECADE ago. How is that even possible you guys??? I still love it with the rich fabric but carefree bow that hangs this way or that.
It works well with my little Saint Laurent clutch and giant Saint Laurent platforms (they don’t even make that style any longer 🙁 ) With a classic red lip and a metallic smoky eye, the makeup added to the moody, metallic vibes of the outfit, allowing the red lipstick to be the only part of my outfit to pop.
Well, except one of two new wardrobe additions to my outfit. The ladybug ring. I absolutely love ladybugs and have been wanting a thumb ring. This was a total impulse purchase. It’s by Staurino, an Italian jewelry designer I also met somewhere around a decade ago. However, I did not have a piece of his in my box until this ring. I love it so much, and it will forever be my lucky charm.
The other new piece is the hair pin. I don’t have too many and I don’t wear them all the time, but this is my first nice one and I wanted to wear it to not only pair with the dress, but keep some of my hair in the back to showcase the front of the dress.
It’s all about how the details complement and complete the outfit!

Yes, light is such fun to play with – it’s a star in its own right.
