I don’t wear red all that often, partly because I don’t have a ton of red in my closet, partly because it’s a color that I often times find difficult to wear and less than flattering on me.
However I do have a few red pieces in my closet that are in the perfect shade for my skin tone and eternally classic in silhouette, timeless wardrobe staples I’ve had for a long time and hope to have for many years to come.
When we saw Moulin Rouge the musical (which was SO GOOD! If you have the chance to see it, do not miss it!!), I felt compelled to wear red to go with the color scheme and themes of the show. I felt so good, almost empowered, in the strong color that I wore it again a few days later.
One of the reasons I like wearing red in these outfits is that they are both a top and skirt instead of a red dress, which is something I almost always shy away from. The blouse with the feminine bow was contrasted with a feminine skirt with tulle overlay and crystal shoes, because why not???
The crystal accented jacket got a modern, more casual twist with the plaid skirt and kind of gave Clueless, 90s girl vibes, which I am always here for because I am and always will be a 90s girl at heart. I popped it with sequined shoes to break up the shades of red that I paired together and worked perhaps despite the odds.
I am really surprised to say that I am red-y to add more shades of red to my wardrobe in more classic pieces, and maybe even a dress if I find the right one. In the end, fashion is all about finding pieces you love in colors that inspire you and wearing them when you are drawn to do so.
Blouse: Halogen // Plaid skirt: Rag and Bone // Jacket: St. John // Tulle skirt: Red Valentino // Crystal Shoes: Prada // Bag: Prada // Sequin shoes: Gianvito Rossi
