There is definitely something about a simple dress. A classic dress. The little black dress. A flattering strapless silhouette. A flared skirt. My closet is full of easy to wear, timeless dresses that I love. There are many I have loved for around a decade and I hope they still hold a place in my heart in another ten years.
But I also love a dress with a little something extra. A dress that makes heads turn, is not for every occasion, and has a personality of its own.
These dresses fit that bill.
Not only do they have gorgeous floral patterns, one has a cape (dresses with capes are my jam!!) and one has a swoopy side drape.
Let’s talk about the pink dress first. I love the print that gives me all the tropical vacay vibes, and the cape is there for more than just looks. Seriously, a dress with a cape is rather practical because it doesn’t make me hot if I let it fall to the side but if a location is chilly I can wrap it around me.
These photos, with more pink accessories, were taken at the Waldorf Astoria, and let me tell you, I definitely wrapped that cape around me because resorts tend to be FREEZING, especially the Waldorf.
The drape on the blue and white dress is definitely less practical. It’s mostly something I have to keep tabs on to be sure it doesn’t accidentally hit the floor. But I love it. It gives so much movement to the dress and takes something that could be overly formal and turns it into a really fun, feminine dress.
I paired it with a white bag and glittery blue sandals for these photos taken at Ava in Winter Park. If you haven’t been there, I highly recommend it, especially for brunch. The moment you step foot inside, it’s like a little vacation to Miami.
Who knew being a caped crusader could be so fashionable?
