Mom likes to refer to this dress as my Little House on the Prairie dress. She has always been a fan of that show, so I suppose it’s a complement. The dress is actually supposed to be inspired by Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. However, I get the country vibes from both the dress and matching set.
Gingham and check prints have gotten kind of a bad rap at old fashioned and out of date. I hope these outfits change that.
By pairing the outfit with contrasting colors it changes the look entirely and brings the eye to different parts of my outfit. Maybe peach and grey might not ordinarily pair with gingham, but in the end it works and modernizes the look entirely. Not to mention the platform heels make the outfit modern. I mean, I don’t think Laura Ingalls was wearing these shoes 😉
The dress gets a (okay, admittedly Easter worthy) pop from the multicolored purse with a giant bunny charm. But then the whole outfit is turned on its head with those chunky sandals. Yes, I have them in two colors. It really is true that when you love something, if possible you should buy it in more than one color. Both colors of these shoes are some of my most worn shoes, and I would be happy to add more colors because they are versatile and comfortable (yes, I said it. They are comfortable).
What’s old or old fashioned can always be new again with a few modern adjustments. Beyond that, there are far worse things in the world than being a little old fashioned. There is most definitely something to be said about the good old days.
