It’s obviously a cruel summer, no way around that one. I find glimmers of fun and hope here and there, but in general, it’s a downer. Summer has never been a thing I’ve wished away until now, but it’s not summer as much as this strange situation that has been thrust upon us all I am wishing away.
It’s also been face of the sun hot in my area. I’m not really complaining, because summer is always better than winter in my book, but I kinda get where the whole cruel summer thing originated from with day after day above 90, barely a drop of rain in sight (until today).
Still we made the best of Fourth of July weekend. Beginning on the Fourth itself. We had a rather failed stop at the Peach Truck event in the area since the line was roughly 200 people deep and as mentioned, it was seriously hot. We left, Peach Truck gave us a refund later, and I ordered some. Lesson learned.
Instead of letting the day go to waste, we headed for a walk around downtown Northville with some Starbucks. Northville is one of several small, walkable cities in the area that has closed some streets in order to facilitate additional outdoor dining. #saverestaurants
It’s really something to see the way cities are trying to help these small businesses out. I don’t want to eat inside a restaurant; I don’t know anyone who does. But dining outside, that’s a different story.
I kind of love taking pictures in the middle of the street, and when I don’t have to watch for cars, that’s even better. I let bright colors do the talking, trying to spread some happiness in the world.
Speaking of dining outside, that’s what we did the following day. We met some friends on the rather shady patio of Bistro Joe’s in Birmingham. The food, service, and of course company were fantastic. I don’t even have any pictures of my outfit because we focused on being present in the moment and each other’s company. But it was an outfit I loved and definitely have to share with you one day.
I posted all about it on Instagram. It’s such a great hang out place with something on the menu for everyone.
I wouldn’t have changed the evening (or the weekend) but whoa it’s hot sitting outside, even in the shade, for three hours when the temperature is in the mid to upper 90s. Like whoa hot. Like businesses and restaurants, we have to adapt too, and for now, it’s sit outside or bust.
And there are honestly a lot of times when it feels like this is all a bust, but then there are weekends like this when I think maybe it will all work out, hopefully sooner than later.

Great pictures and love the orange! Such a nice color in summer. Too bad about the Peaches trip but visiting downtown Northville was a nice option.
