My late Papa loved horse racing and I think I have a little of that in my blood. I’ve watched the Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes for as long as I can remember but this is the first year I attended a Kentucky Derby party.
Dressed in my finest and cheering for My Boy Jack, Papa’s name, I headed to the Country Club of Detroit in Grosse Pointe for a party benefitting Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Luckily it was a beautiful night so people were inside and out, rocking hats, spiffy clothes, and having a great time.
My Boy Jack ended up in fifth place but it was still a great time and felt like the totally unofficial kick off to summer.
I wore one of my favorite dresses in my closet. It’s a showstopper and can’t be worn all the time, but this was the perfect time to break it out of storage. Of course, it was also the perfect time for a hat. I just love this hat and wear it for way more than Derby festivities.
The setting is my favorite part of the outfit. I have yet to find a more photogenic area in metro Detroit.
Did you Derby? Who were you cheering for?
Dress: Marchesa // Hat: Inverni // Shoes: Christian Louboutin // Bag: Louis Vuitton

Yes, that dress is a showstopper with you in it especially. Yes, Dad loved the horses and we loved going with him on occasion. I used to go to a Derby party every year that friends hosted. They handed you a mint julep as you arrived in a commemorative glass featuring the previous years winners. It was very cool and I had quite the collection! Now days we just watch on TV…. I too was routing for My Boy Jack!!

I’m sure you got lots of compliments, the dress just says “spring”.
