One of my favorite things to do is see plays and musicals. Over the years I have seen tons … I should have kept count. Everything from Avenue Q to The Lion King, Twelve Angry Men to August Osage County, Wicked to Book of Mormon. The vast majority are fantastic. Typically I’ll post a tiny bit on Instagram. The reason I don’t post reviews is that you cannot take photos at these shows. And that’s one rule I’m not breaking.
So, this isn’t a review, per se, but I did recently see Latin History for Morons and Hello Dolly. And tbh, I wore the same outfit, well almost the same outfit, so I could share photos with you guys. I’ll share a few thoughts on each show in case you have the chance to check them out.
Latin History for Morons was at the Fox Theatre, all decked out for Christmas. It is John Leguizamo’s Tony Award winning one-man show. It was good, but not great, but I’m still glad I saw it since it was a fun night and I got to meet Sid the Sloth … I mean, John Leguizamo. Though the story could have been a little more cohesive, to see such an amazing actor on that stage for about two hours through audience interaction, physical comedy, and even some costume changes, blew my mind. He is one hell of an actor.
Speaking of audience participation, John spotted Dad in the audience very early on in the show and picked on him throughout. That memory is worth the price of admission.
Hello Dolly was at the Fisher Theatre. The entire Fisher Building is decorated for Christmas and made me swoon. I just want to hang out there all the time. It’s pretty awesome to have two historic, stunning, well cared for theatres in Detroit. I also didn’t love this story … it’s a little dated. But I must say I loved the show. I was jaw hanging open in awe of the costumes, set pieces, and especially the cast. The dance numbers and singing rival any show I have seen.
Since they were raising money for Broadway Cares, I also got to meet the stars of Hello Dolly. Another great memory. Honestly, if you have the chance to see either show in the future, go for it!
On to the outfit, I needed something warm, kind of comfortable, and of course pretty fashionable, so I went with my trusty grey sweater and my favorite plaid skirt. Okay so maybe it’s my only plaid skirt, but it’s one of my favorite skirts period! I popped on my coat (bleh) and my pink scarf to bring out some of the tones in the skirt. Two different hairstyles and two different pairs of Loubis rounded out each look that I honestly really like.
Have you seen any amazing shows lately?
