Moving to a completely and totally new place has a lot of benefits. One of the simplest has also turned out to be my favorite.
Though I have been to Florida a few times throughout my life, I have no idea what to expect day to day and season to season. I’m constantly surprised by the way the light streams into the house and how I can spot the moon and stars out the windows at different times.
Flower blooming seasons are completely different here than in Michigan. Familiar favorites bloom at different times, other flowers I can’t begin to identify. I spot something new and wonderful each time I take a walk.
I don’t make it to Winter Park every day as I don’t live there, but each of the handful of times I have been there, the park looks different. The day these pictures were taken was my favorite so far. The wisteria in the park is one of the prettiest things I have seen in my life.
I took lots of time to appreciate it as well as the other flowers blooming on a simple walk after grabbing some wine and lunch at Financier. Sancerre, which the wonderful waitress told me was Ernest Hemmingway’s favorite wine. How appropriate! It’s a delightful little café that you should visit if you are in the area.
Knowing there was a small chance of rain, I kept my eyes to the sky but took my chances.
And then the skies opened up. It rained like I haven’t seen rain in a long time, certainly not up close and personal.
Luckily, we found a little alcove to hang out in with a warm coffee. Just watching the rain until it passed was another simple pleasure for which I am thankful.
I am also thankful for all of you who have pre-ordered Cause of Death. And if you haven’t done so yet, please please pre-order. It means so much to me.
