My all time favorite thing to do every year is head to the garden center and buy all the flowers. So this year we weren’t able to buy nearly as many as normal since Dad had that surgery and Mom and I can’t do everything. Also, he is the one with the green thumb.
I still wanted to head to the garden center not only to pick up a couple premade pots for display but also to take in the sights and sounds.
Even if we don’t have that many flowers at home, it is really something to see them all at the center in their colorful glory. The intoxicating floral scent, dominated by marigolds wafts through the air, and the birds sing their happy song.
We happened to have an almost chilly day (after a meteorological heat wave just a week or so prior), which is the best time to go look around the greenhouses. When it is hot and sunny, those greenhouses are like ovens and no fun to hang out in.
Dad and I went without Mom to the center, with warnings not to purchase too much, and because of those warnings, it reminded me of the old days when we went to Toys R Us and had to select one Barbie from all the dolls on the shelves. We caved and bought two pots that I couldn’t be happier with, but I so thought back to that time.
Since it was a chilly day, I went with long sleeves, but made them summer like by tying the blouse and wearing my ruffled skirt along with sandals.
I still hope to make it back to the garden center this summer to see what’s going on and hang out with the flowers again.
