When some of our family came in from out of town a few weeks ago, we wanted to plan a brunch to reconnect. After deliberating on the options for longer than any normal person should on something as seemingly trivial as a brunch spot, we chose The Whitney.
None of us ever having been there, it was cool to check the old house, transformed into a haunted restaurant, bar, and dessert parlor. It was even better to catch up with family and was one of the little events that made January not just bearable but rather enjoyable.
I enjoyed a winter month. A January month. A birthday month. I don’t even know me anymore. In kind of the best way possible.
After brunch, we took a tour of the house and it was fascinating to learn about the history and see the gorgeous rooms, many of which are about to undergo a restoration, which is rather needed and will be great to see once it is completed.
As I mentioned before there is much lore about The Whitney being haunted. It seemed we weren’t going to encounter any spirits until near the end when I was taking pictures of my shoes on the elaborate tile floor (I did it for the Insta :/) and an odd glare, white mark, something unexplained appeared in just two of the photos I took.
I think it was a friendly spirit and I take it as a very good sign that it appeared in my photos and wanted to greet me.
Because we were in a rather glam setting, even though it was brunch, I wanted to wear a sparkly outfit that is party ready.
This top is actually from Express, where I went to shop after finding a possibly two decade old gift card in a purse I was cleaning out. The gift card was still good and I purchased this top so far. It’s super fun and festive and comfortable.
The skirt was another great find on sale (there may still be some available), and my sturdy sandals rounded out the look with another pop of sparkle from the gold bag I received for Christmas. It’s a look I really loved and can’t wait to wear again. Also, I can’t wait to see my family again.
