I definitely have a thing for wearing metallics. For an evening out or special occasion of any kind (and I mean sometimes isn’t cocktails on Friday night a special occasion???), they are an elevated and versatile neutral. Metallics in all shades are pretty universally flattering, and I don’t play favorites in clothes, shoes, or jewelry – gold, silver, bronze, or anything in between.
But this post is an ode to gold, specifically black and gold. What another fabulous combination – two classics together in two different dresses, both formal but with different personalities.
The one shoulder dress has been in my closet for over a decade (what?!?) and I still love it. I had been wanting to wear it recently and I was so glad I did. It’s just such a classy dress with a fun vibe from the shoulder tie. I paired it with black and gold shoes, a black and gold bag, and a classic red lipstick. I don’t think I will ever get tired of this quintessential night out outfit.
The strapless dress (that actually has straps, but I tuck them inside) is gold sequin with a black floral overlay, making it younger, hipper, and more versatile. Paired with patent platform pumps and a bronze bag for a different metallic hit, I love this outfit in different ways. It’s trendier and feels like a bit of a fashion risk, especially with the dark lipstick that solidified the look.
Next time you go out on the town, I hope you give a metallic outfit or accessory a try. We all need to sparkle and shine sometimes!
