I mentioned the other day that a couple weeks ago I had an evening that was one of the best of my life. My parents and I went to the Detroit Athletic Club with Dad’s boss and her husband. The DAC, as it is known, is one of the premiere clubs in the area and one of those places that you have to go at least once if you ever have the opportunity.
Once I knew I was finally checking this off my Detroit bucket list, it’s safe to say I was beyond excited. The evening was steamy but absolutely beautiful – the perfect summer weather. And exploring the DAC was everything I hoped it would be and more.
Mom, Dad, and I walked up the stairs to explore the first four levels, then took the elevator up to the seventh floor where they have an open air club. From there you can see Ford Field and Comerica Park. It was packed up there, so once our hosts arrived, we headed down to the first floor lounge where we had cocktails. It was the perfect setting for chatting and just relaxing.
Then we headed over to the dining room for dinner. We all agreed it was some of the best food we have ever had. From dill pickle soup to Copper River salmon to the best rice pudding you could ever imagine, it really was a meal that I will never forget.
To round out the evening we took a walk, guided by our hosts around downtown Detroit. I had never seen the city like that and was shocked at how alive it felt. It really is something to see the city come back to life.
There aren’t a ton of pictures because the DAC frowns upon cell phone use, but I managed to snap a few to remember the fabulous night. I wish I could live it over and over again, but at least I have the memories of the great conversation and company, wonderful meal, and a city revitalized.
For the fancy night out, I chose the dress that Carolina Herrera herself once helped me choose. That was another very memorable night. It is comfortable and easy to wear, classic, yet has a modern feel. To keep the look headed in the modern direction, I paired it with a bright clutch and very unique shoes made of PVC meant to look like a film reel.
Do you like to explore the city in which you live?
