All summer long, I have been on the move. I’m taking walks, running errands, and packing all the fun things I can into the short time the weather is actually nice and I want to be outside.
Because I’m away from home more than usual, I have to be prepared for the moment when hunger strikes. No one wants to be around me when I get hangry!
Mom and Dad are the same way, so I made some Homemade Trail Mix to keep us feeling good on all our different adventures.
This trail mix is so easy to make. It’s gluten free, totally portable, and you can mix and match flavors to suit your needs. I included Blue Diamond Lightly Salted Almonds, white cheddar popcorn, raisins, and gummy bears for a sweet and salty, healthy and slightly indulgent treat that would perk me up just when I need it.
I recently went on an adventure exploring a new area locally. When I do things like that, I always think it will take less time than it does and I’ll be home before I’m too hungry. But since I’m always having a good time, it never ends up working out that way because I don’t want to go home.
On my long car ride home, instead of being starving and cranky, I pulled out my trail mix and was so happy I packed it. It provided nutrition, flavor, and a nice balance of fat, protein, and carbohydrates … and you know … gummy bears.
So mix up a batch of your own trail mix … you’ll be thankful the next time adventure (and hunger) strikes.
