I absolutely loved playing with Barbies growing up. It was probably my all time favorite thing to do. I had so many Barbies and clothes and accessories. I had furniture and houses, cars, even an airplane. And I’m probably forgetting a lot of the cool things I had. I do still have some, a couple stuffed in a closet, most stuffed in a cramped and crowded storage area in our home. Not sure I’ll see those again :/
Playing with Barbies, creating stories and worlds for them, dressing them up and styling their hair, almost certainly has informed who I am. From writing to fashion, I have little doubt all those hours playing pretend shaped the person I am today. And that’s kind of cool.
I haven’t seen the Barbie movie yet – rest assured I will at some point, but hearing all about it and seeing the Barbie cafes popping up in parts of the county has had me thinking back on my youth and wanting to wear all the hot pink!
I don’t have a ton of pink in my closet, but this super fun, and I hope Barbie approved, top is a new addition that makes a big statement. I know a top like this isn’t for everyone (honestly, Mom is not a fan), but I love it. The color and the ruffle make it unique from not only everything in my closet but also anything I have seen shopping.
I paired it with a black skirt and black bag for a business Barbie kind of vibe, and a sequin skirt and pink bag for more of a party Barbie vibe. Obviously I felt really strongly both days that my bright rainbow shoes were the perfect finish since I snagged them from my closet after an internal debate. I think Barbie would like the shoes too.
Did you play with Barbies? Are you wearing any Barbie inspired fashion?
