I have always loved to bake. It began when I was a kid, baking with my mom or sometimes baby sitters. We sometimes made things from scratch, but more often, we turned to box mixes. Every once in awhile “baking” meant popping some of those slice and bake cookies into the oven and fighting over the last one with my grandpa.
Today I don’t use box mixes or make those cookies, but there’s nothing wrong with them. They still brought me together with my family and resulted in something delicious that brought a smile to my face.
Whisk Takers is a new business that is the best of both worlds. This project offers people the chance to bake from scratch while taking out all the guess work. They have a variety of recipes including these Maple Pecan Blondies. That’s right blondies are crashing day three of brownie week (hint: they’re crashing day four too).
They send a box full of all the non-perishable ingredients, premeasured, with detailed instructions. All you need are the baking vessel and perishable ingredients, in this case, eggs and butter.
It’s a fun and easy way to bake that doesn’t result in a bunch of wasted ingredients. And the end product is fantastic. It came with a lot of almond extract but I went ahead and used it. The blondies are a little almond heavy but I kind of like it since it’s not a flavor I bake with much since I don’t often want an entire bottle of almond extract around to go rancid.
I did make a couple changes to the recipe. You all know I’m not a fan of salt, so I left out the table salt and just used the pink salt. I also put all the pecans into the blondie batter instead of sprinkling half on top once baked. That just seemed messy.
I always encourage you to make recipes your own and that is no different when using a box like this or one from the supermarket. There is always room for improvisation.

Whisk Takers is such a cute name and I love the concept! I’ve had my eye on a Kitchenaid stand mixer for the longest time–this might motivate me to make more things! 😛 I love blondies!
