In what feels like the blink of an eye, the holiday season passed. I hope yours was enjoyable and your new year is off to a good start!
Speaking of the new year, did you go out?
I did. For the first time ever. The new year always happens. I always kind of celebrate, or maybe it’s more like commiserate, with lots of musical performances on TV and watching the ball drop. I always make it to midnight, and honestly, I always feel kind of depressed. Another year come and gone, some of it good, some of it not so good. It all just feels inherently sad.
So this year, when my favorite bartender at the Ritz asked if we were going to be there to celebrate, I knew immediately it was something I wanted to do. If I am hoping this year really is my best yet, if I am hoping to take steps forward, staring the year in a totally different way felt right.
I got all dressed up and headed to the Ritz for New Years Eve which was crowded but not too crowded, had awesome musicians to keep the party going, and brought in the new year with fireworks at midnight. It definitely beat sitting at home watching TV and for me it feels like a new tradition. To go out and celebrate the fresh start instead of dreading it.
Plus, if I get to be super dressed up, I can’t complain. It’s been far too long since I’ve worn my big tulle dress. It’s one of my favorite dresses and I was so excited to wear it and pair it with a classic bag with some rhinestones and some sparkly, yet comfortable shoes in case I wanted to dance (I didn’t, but maybe next year).
Because it was a last minute decision, I didn’t have time to find a kitschy new year’s hat, but there was a headband waiting for me at the Ritz and I was honestly too excited.
I never thought I’d say this, but I can’t wait for next New Year’s Eve!
