It’s been years since we’ve done much of anything on the Fourth of July, but this year I wanted to. So Mom, Dad, and I invited some friends to hang out in Detroit, grab a quick dinner and some drinks, and then realized almost everything is closed.
We finally found Bakersfield to be open and headed there, as we all wanted to check it out. The food was actually excellent. All the margaritas were huge hits; mine was a special cucumber margarita that I made spicy because why not? And it packed a serious punch that I loved.
We ordered tacos and tostadas along with guacamole, salsa, and queso, and really everything was a hit. We all raved about the chunky guacamole being some of the best we ever had. The short rib and spicy al pastor tacos were probably my favorite, and I highly recommend adding an egg.
We did have an issue of a hair being found in the food (gross, I know), but it was handled incredibly well with the whole order being replaced and taken off the bill along with the appetizers. With great service like that and the food to back it up, I highly recommend a trip to Bakersfield for a super casual dinner.
Then we headed to new food truck Clementina in the Capitol Park area of Detroit. Food truck doesn’t quite do this stationary outpost justice with a beautiful outdoor seating area that is reminiscent of LA or Miami. We did try the patatas bravas (excellent) but mostly stuck to the frozen cocktails they offer. The froze was good, but the Cocolina, a rum based concoction, was better. I am excited to return for more summer vibes and to try the third frozen cocktail and the charcoal soft serve.
After a quick trip into Prime + Proper to say hi to the wonderful people who work there, we headed home.
I went all out with my patriotic look, wearing red, white, and blue. It’s the perfect outfit for all summer long with the ruffles. I also put a small braid in my hair for the first time. I love how it’s a fun, yet sophisticated look, and again super summery.
