Officially, a poncho is a coverlet or wrap that has no arms but hole through which you put your head. That makes this the only true poncho I own. It also means when you put it on or take it off, it can mess up your hair if not done carefully.
Perhaps that is why I only own one poncho and honestly don’t wear it all that much. But I really should wear it more, like pretty much whenever the weather in Orlando permits because it’s beautiful and striking and changes an outfit entirely.
It is the perfect thing to wear on a chilly day or evening, ready for any festivity that calls for a sophisticated look. It’s eye catching yes, but in a different way than any of the wraps I own. I love them too, but this harkens back to old school glamour, say the 1950s when every day was an occasion. Without even trying that hard, this look is incredibly put together and would make the ladies who lunch from decades ago swoon.
I wore the poncho over a dress I have worn many, many times. It’s a piece I also love but once I wear it some place, it’s kind of difficult to repeat. Voila, the poncho makes even me look at the photos and see a totally unique outfit, separate from the dress.
A few metallic accessories that fade into the background instead of stealing the show and a bold lip that leans into the chillier, wintry vibes, and this look is complete. Because really, any look is complete when the star of the show is an iconically classic piece. That’s why I try to buy things that will last for years and more importantly, things I will love for years.
