I received an invitation to a handbag event at Neiman Marcus a few days prior to it taking place and knew immediately I had to go. Mom and I used to go to events like it all the time, but NM holds far fewer of them than they used to and we shop there quite a bit less than we used to because there are so many other options for shoppers.
It was a gorgeous eighty degree day that transitioned into just as beautiful of an evening. We took a stroll around Birmingham before grabbing dinner at Hyde Park Prime – I told you all about that experience earlier in the week.
Then we headed to NM for the event that showcased handbags not normally carried in our store including Christian Louboutin, Fendi, Prada, Nancy Gonzales, and more. It was fun to see all these bags and the event was really lovely even if we were some of the only people there.
That made me sad because with a DJ pumping music, an aura reading, and some seriously fantastic cocktails from the guys at Two James Distillery, it was quite the party.
Still, I had a great time, and I’m sure it doesn’t surprise you to learn I in particular enjoyed the aura reading. It was a really special experience that inspired me.
For the evening I felt it was the perfect time to pull out the new dress I picked up at Saks’ final sale earlier in the year. I love the feminine print and ladylike structure of this dress. When I made the purchase, the lady said it looked like it was from The Help and she is so right.
It’s a fun and flirty dress that channels the fashion of the 1950s in the best way. The sleek and modern handbag is a contrast I think really works.
Do you wear clothes inspired by another location or era?

You’re wearing the hell out of that dress.
Laura says
Sudhakar, you totally made my day 🙂

I love the dress! Big question, did you or your mother buy a new handbag?
Laura says
Haha! We actually did not buy anything, Karen. There were a couple I liked but in the end nothing I LOVED.

Great dress! I love it on you and with the shoes and handbag, it’s just perfect!! I think I went to one of those events years ago with you and your mom at NM. It was a fun event. Glad you had a good time.
Laura says
Yes, we have taken you to an event like this – although there were a lot more people when you went. Thanks, Debbie!
