So the real saying is bitch stole my look. It’s a throwback to Fashion Police on E! Years ago, Mom and I would watch the red carpet coverage of the Emmys or Oscars or Grammys and then the following night would be a brutally honest critique of the fashion from the night with a panel including the late great Joan Rivers (who we also saw perform stand up in person years ago and did not disappoint!).
While E!’s red carpet coverage continues, Fashion Police went by the wayside, which is a bummer because it was appointment television. One of the segments on it was bitch stole my look when two celebrities wore the same or incredibly similar dress at the same event or even over different events. They decided who wore it better. Don’t worry, I’m not asking anyone to choose favorites in this post 🙂
Sometimes Mom steals my looks. We can’t share all clothes, but there are some dresses that we share. All but the black dress with the cape were originally purchased as my dresses. The nude sequin one was mom’s latest pilfer from my closet this past weekend for the Derby, an action that gave me the idea for this post.
For the record there is no one I would rather have my look stolen by than my mom. And she most definitely is not a bitch (okay maybe in that fun girl power way but she doesn’t really get that vibe); she’s actually probably the nicest person I know. While Mom doesn’t love all of my dresses or outfits, it means a lot to me that she generally speaking likes what I wear, sometimes so much so she wants to see if it looks good on her. Not everything does, we have different body shapes, are different ages, although sometimes people do say we look like sisters, and have different aesthetics, but sometimes magic strikes, a la The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
I can’t pick a favorite of these dresses for either of us. They are all gorgeous and we both have so many great memories wearing them, though the black one with the cape probably has the best stories to tell.
Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! Here’s to sharing more clothes, making more memories in them, and watching more red carpets on TV, until we get to walk one someday <3
