I don’t wear my hair straight very often. In part, it’s much more difficult for me to blow my hair out well, though when I’m willing to put in the work, I’m not half bad at it. I have never, on the other hand, been adept with a flat iron. This mean, I stick mostly to hot rollers as an easy way to create a flattering hairstyle that holds up for a night out, in part because my love of hair spray knows no bounds.
When I get my hair done, my stylist blows it out and it looks so different. I’m impressed with her skill every single time since it leaves my hair sleek, straight, and shiny. I kind of feel like a different person with my hair like that.
A hairstyle is definitely part of fashion and my outfit. Whether I put a barrette in my hair, create a half up-do, a full up-do (haven’t done that in awhile either), curl it, braid it the night before for a crimped look, or have my talented stylist blow it out, it is part of my look, the amazing color she formulates for me is as well. Spoiler alert: that’s not my natural color.
In these looks, my hair takes the orange and black and gold dresses I have worn dozens of times and elevates and modernizes them. It adds to the sleek modernity of the silver dress. I don’t mind my hair curled in the slightest, but there is something young and contemporary about wearing my hair straight versus the classic elegance of curls.
Ultimately what’s fun is switching up my look. Just like I might grab a different purse or pair of shoes, I love that my hair doesn’t always look quite the same. Life and fashion are ever changing after all.
