Breakfast was never my favorite meal. All through grade school and high school, I was so anxious in the mornings and had to get up so early that I couldn’t sit down to one of those stereotypical TV breakfasts. You know, the ones where the whole family sits down to spread of freshly squeezed orange juice, eggs, bacon, toast, and fresh fruit. Yeah, who actually does that?
In order to get something in my stomach before school, Mom okayed a breakfast of store bought cookies. I perused the cookie aisle, chose what I wanted, and choked down one. Maybe one and a half.
But now, I’m an adult and I need to start my day with a hearty, healthy breakfast that will give me energy through the day. Oatmeal is a good go-to staple, but a girl can only eat so much oatmeal before she gets bored. Enter smoothies. The flavor possibilities are endless. But smoothies can be a little light on nutrients, namely protein. That’s why Carnation Breakfast Essentials Powder is an awesome addition.
Carnation Breakfast Essentials Powder adds 21 vitamins and minerals, 13 grams of protein, and as much calcium as a six ounce cup of yogurt. Plus it is super easy to prepare and has great flavor. I chose the French Vanilla and am now addicted to the rich flavor it added to my smoothie, but it also comes in Rich Milk Chocolate, Classic Chocolate Malt, Dark Chocolate, Strawberry Sensation, and a variety pack. Definitely a flavor for every taste! If you want some recipe ideas for the different flavors, check out Carnations Breakfast Essential’s recipes. You can also visit their Facebook page – I’m sure you’ll want to give them a like after trying Carnation Breakfast Essentials Powder.
Plus, right now Kroger has a coupon for Carnation Breakfast Essentials, so it’s even more tempting to check them out. Look for Carnation Breakfast Essentials offers here. I do a lot of grocery shopping at Kroger and was thrilled to pick these up on my latest shopping trip.
To make these smoothies even more interesting, I made two different smoothies: one strawberry banana and one peach. Then I swirled them together. If you don’t have all these ingredients on hand or are in a huge hurry, feel free to make only one flavor smoothie or swap in your favorite fruits. Maybe Breakfast isn’t so bad after all!

Back in high school, I used to drink Carnation Instant Breakfast every single day! I think that was about 15 years ago, so it’s been a long time since I’ve had it and I wonder if I’d still love it. I have a feeling I would if it was made into a pretty smoothie like this!!

What a great smoothie.. I’ve been trying to do the same thing with a mango and kiwi smoothie to make them look like this in a glass.. and found it so difficult.. Your idea is really good.
