Whether or not you live in metro Detroit, there’s a pretty good chance you have heard of Zingerman’s. Between the deli, coffee, creamery, candy, bake shop, and mail order business they are a mini empire that keeps the focus local.
I don’t make it out to Ann Arbor as much as I would like but on a recent sunny day, I headed to an industrial park to visit Zingerman’s. I have been going there when they were much more of a hidden gem than they currently are. All the stores have been redesigned and made more comfortable for you to come and hang out awhile.
It is worth the visit if you live in the area or are traveling. The high quality of the products and friendly staff make me return again and again.
This was my first visit to the coffee company and it was possibly the best cup of java I’ve ever had. The slightly overwhelming menu features different coffees and brewing methods, making it the most unique shop in the area. One of each, please 😉
The candy shop produces marshmallows, brittles, candies, and chocolates. No chocolate for me of course, but there were plenty of other options.
Gelato and cheese are the stars in the creamery. If you love mozzarella, you haven’t lived until you try their fresh mozz that doesn’t even need to be refrigerated for 36 hours. That’s how fresh it is!
Then there’s the bakehouse. I couldn’t resist this bunny cake, but from bread and cinnamon rolls to cookies and brownies, they have just about every confection you can think of and a few you haven’t. Everything is made with real, high quality ingredients and they are happy to answer any questions.
Perhaps the best part is being able to take a peek behind the scenes through glass windows in each of the stores. When we were there, they were roasting coffee beans, making cashew brittle, and preparing bread. Imagine the intoxicating smells wafting through the whole block.
Because I am in the mood for spring, I turned my white denim jacket into a top and paired it with my plaid mini. It was a casual cool outfit that was ready for an adventure, just like me.

Are your hands OK?!
Laura says
Hi Lyn! Thanks for your concern. Yes and no. I suffer with something called chillblains, which is a reaction to cold weather (which seems to not be going away), as well as ezcema that flares sometimes when I am stressed. I will be okay, but my body is pretty much over this weather.
