I had the opportunity to attend Taste of the Lions for the third year in a row last week with Mom and Dad. I must admit, I think it was my favorite year. We had such a wonderful time, and I’m already looking forward to next year.
We purchased VIP tickets again this year, though the VIP experience was very different from years past. Instead of being in the locker room, we were in the Huntington Club. It gave us a different view of the stadium we had never experienced before, but it was not my favorite part of the evening.
We headed downstairs to start sampling the food and meeting the players. After checking out the gorgeous display of cupcakes we started walking down the main corridor and I spotted Fox 2 sports reporter Jennifer Hammond.
You may not know this about me, but I spent a good portion of my childhood and teenage years wanting to be a journalist. Jennifer has always been one of my favorite TV personalities and I have always wanted to meet her. I think it was even on my Christmas list one year 🙂 It was awesome to meet her and she was even nicer than I could have imagined. I am so thrilled I had the chance to chat with her for a few moments, and she let me hold the microphone. How cool is that?!? We also saw Dan Miller, Fox 2 sports director again, who was nice as always.
We were all really surprised to see Jason Hanson there. I think any Lions fan would rank him among one of their favorite players of all time, all of us included. We wish he was still playing. I actually met him 15 or so years ago at bring your kid to work day at Ford. That was such an awesome day, so it was equally as awesome to say hi again. Pretty cool how we got photobombed by another player too … we think it was Eric Ebron.
The players are all very friendly and seem just about as happy to be at the event as we are, which is awesome. I have to admit, I think Al Bond may have been the most excited though. He took a selfie with us on his phone! It was so cool that he wanted memories of the night as much as we did. I looked him up and he’s an undrafted free agent that the Lions signed. I’ll be cheering for him to make the team and be on the field this season.
Joseph Fauria was also there. He had one of the longest lines, but it was worth the wait to meet him. You may know him as the player who took Jimmy Fallon’s touchdown dance challenge. He’s one of my favorite Lions and he has such a great personality in person. I’m not sure, but if he’s single, I’d really like to go on a date with him. Or Sam Martin … he seems pretty awesome too. Hey, I’ve been on four not so great Match dates and I’m trying to change my fate, my life, and be happy. Can’t blame a girl for trying 😉
Oh, and one lady stopped mom and me and said she found my blog Googling what to wear to the event. It was so cool that she then recognized us!
At the end of the night, my feet didn’t even hurt. I was walking on a cloud after one of the best nights of my life. Do I really have to wait until next May to do it again???
Sounds like you had a really fun time! Until I read this post, I didn’t realize that you lived in Michigan. How nice that you have such a great relationship with your parents.
