I have two hats. They are beautiful and well made and super fun, and honestly I don’t wear them nearly enough. Hats are a lot of fun, a fashion statement of yesteryear that seriously deserves a comeback for more than the Kentucky Derby.
Although, to be honest, I wore the green dress and hat featured here for a Kentucky Derby party. Some things are tradition for a reason, I guess. I wore the same dress and hat to a Derby party back in Detroit quite a while ago. It just screams Derby with the structured floral dress and the pastel flower on the hat. It’s springy and special and an outfit that deserves a special occasion like the Derby.
My other had is floppier and more casual, but no less beautiful. It’s fun and versatile, begging to be worn to the beach. I didn’t wear it to the beach, but I was happy to wear it with another green floral dress with totally different vibes, although really, it would fit in well for a Derby event too.
Accessories are fun because they change outfits. They make a favorite dress or matching set look different, pop in a different way. They dress things up and down. Jewelry, shoes, and bags are obvious accessories to add to an outfit, but a hat can really take things to another level. They catch everyone’s eye, and if it’s not the best hair day, they offer an amazing distraction from that too. If you think hats aren’t for you, I encourage you to try different ones. There are so many silhouettes, there is definitely one for everyone.
One day I hope to add a fascinator to my collection because why not? Fashion should be fun!
