THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED! Congratulations to Natalie on winning the cookbook!
I have another very exciting giveaway for you guys today. Being the Food Network junkie that I am, I have been a huge Tyler Florence fan for years. From Food 911 to Tyler’s Ultimate and now The Great Food Truck Race, I have loved all of his shows. I remember one of the highlights of staying home from school was being able to catch one of his shows, such a great treat that always made my day. When I heard Tyler had a new cookbook coming out, I was super excited.
Fresh focuses on using fresh ingredients, which, as you know, is one of my goals in everything I make and eat. The book talks about how we all eat way too much processed foods and how we need to get back to eating real foods. I pretty much always use real foods in my baking here on the blog. I don’t feel guilty about eating the sometimes super decadent treats I make because I know they were made with wholesome ingredients instead of the store bought desserts with ingredient after ingredient of which I can’t begin to pronounce the name.
The photographs in the book are also stunning. The food is presented beautifully, looking more like a work of art than a meal. The dishes almost look too good to eat, but I bet they taste amazing too.
When I requested a cookbook to giveaway, I also requested an interview with Tyler. You might remember that when I gave away Giada de Laurentiis’ cookbook, she was kind enough to do an interview with me, even if it was only via email. I was immediately told by Tyler’s publicist that an interview would be no problem. A phone interview. I would be able to talk with Tyler Florence by phone! In only a few hours! OMG! So I wrote my questions, tried not to be crazy nervous and waited . . . and waited . . . and waited some more.
Tyler’s schedule had changed. How about the next day? Sure. More waiting, jumping every time the phone rang. Hoping, wishing. But his schedule changed again. The next day? Sure why not. Tyler’s a busy guy on a book tour, I get that. I’m a blogger and this is a huge break – it was a no-brainer. So my schedule had to be rearranged again with more waiting and jumping and crazy nerves. No phone call again.
The possibility for a phone call over the entire next week kept hope alive, but even after his publicist said she would make it happen, it was becoming very clear it would not. Both Mom and I heard her promise she would make it happen, though she denies this. She said maybe an email interview could still be possible, but yeah, that didn’t happen either.
I want to be clear, I don’t know if Tyler knows a single thing about this whole ordeal. About one of his biggest fans sitting by the phone for literally over a week just waiting for it to ring. About getting said fan so excited and then so disappointed. I am still a fan and this cookbook looks fantastic. I only wanted to share this experience with you. I know one of you will still really enjoy this cookbook. I also received a signed and personalized copy of the cookbook that will forever be a prized part of my growing cookbook collection.
So, on to the giveaway! One person will win an autographed copy of Tyler Florence Fresh.

Wow Tyler Florence!!!! I’m so sorry for the disappointment. I guess it comes with the territory . But you keep your head up. Your doing an excellent job. I unfortunately don’t have a favorite cookbook. But I, like you, enjoy the cooking shows. I love all the ppl you have mentioned in you blogs. My favorite show is Iron Chef. Laura, you gotta remember, that if you want something bad enough, I’m sure you will put all your heart and soul into making it happen, it can and will happen. The sky’s the limit for you hun 🙂
Thanks for the support, Kristy! I really appreciate it. I am trying to just keep working hard at my dreams, though it is some days very tough. I also love watching Iron Chef. It is so entertaining!
Good for you for trying!! I’d be waaaay too chicken to even attempt to call a publicist and request an interview.
On a different note, I have the biggest crush on Tyler Florence… such a hottie!
My favorite cookbook is Dorie Greenspan’s, Around My French Table. I have learned so much from that cookbook.
Since I have been blogging and writing, I have learned very quickly that it never hurts to ask. Sometimes great things can happen! I totally have a crush of Tyler too! He cooks and is good looking and seems like a nice guy . . . what’s not to like 😉
My favorite cookbook is the one I got from my grandmother with all the family recipes in it. I have six shelves full of cookbooks, and I love to try new things from them, but I cherish the recipes I have shared with my family my whole life. My grandmother’s cookbook contains not only good food, but good memories as well.
Food and good memories are so closely linked. It’s great that you still have your grandmother’s cookbook and recipes 🙂
This new book sounds great! I attended a cooking demo with Tyler and met him at the book signing that followed the demo years ago. He was a crowd favorite. I don’t know if I can pick one favorite cookbook. I have many, many favorites! I’ll just say today’s favorite is Barefoot Contessa Foolproof because I’ve been cooking a lot from it lately.
It would be so cool to meet Tyler. He seems like a really nice guy, which is why I bet he doesn’t know what happened with my interview.

My favorite cookbook is a Chaldean cookbook that I stole from my mother. It is really battered and old but has recipes that I really love. It is called Babylonian Cuisine: Chaldean Cookbook from the Middle East.

I am so sorry your interview never happened, I can only imagine how disappointing that must have been. Especially after days of waiting for it to never happen. It is really nice of you to still be holding the giveaway.
Thanks, Jessica! It was a huge bummer, but hopefully someone will still enjoy the cookbook 🙂
The Art of Simple Food by Alice Waters
I also love the Giada cookbooks, Jacques Pepin, the internet and cooking blogs.. Pies and Plots, Part-time Health Nut, Blender Girl.. I love them all!
Aw that’s disappointing 🙁 I usually go to the internet (or food blogs!) for recipes, but I like flipping though my Mrs. Fields Best Cookies Ever cookbook.
I have a Mrs. Fields cookbook that I totally need to revisit. Thanks for entering, Maggie!

Thanks for the positivity, Lendon, but I am not holding out hope any longer. Though I do hope I will get to interview other chefs in the future.

my favorite is definitely the King Arthur Flour Cookbook!
I really don’t remember the name of my favorite cookbook, it was old and the cover torn off when I was learning to cook back in the 50’s. It may have been Good Housekeeping, I think my Mom had mentioned that once. So long ago, but, I remember my sister and I going through it and trying many of the baked goods in it. I don’t know what happened to it, I think it was a casualty of our move in the 60’s. I have pleasant memories of the items we made, some not so good, but, Sis and I learning valuable lessons.
At least you still have the memories from the cookbook. It sounds like you had a lot of fun using it.
My favorite cookbook is The King Arthur Flour Bakers Companion
I don’t think you can really call it a cookbook, but I wrote down the recipes that Mom and Dad made that I really loved. I use them often especially Mom’s Thanksgiving ones for stuffing and gravy. I have a folder of all the recipes that I really love and it includes yours too!!
Those are the best kinds of cookbooks, Debbie! So honored that it includes my recipes 🙂
