The little white dress does not get enough credit. Everyone loves black and while I do wear it from time to time, I much prefer lighter, brighter colors that make me feel good no matter the weather or kind of day I am having.
Yes, white can be hard to wear. By choosing the right fabric for your body and doing your best to be extra careful to not get anything on it (and let’s be honest, knowing an awesome dry cleaner), it can totally work for everyone.
These pictures are from my birthday celebration back in January, almost three months ago to the day. My editorial calendar kept filling up and maybe I was hanging on to them and the memories until winter broke and I had a few more upcoming plans.
Regardless, take a trip back in time with me to this dress which is totally special occasion worthy and Prime and Proper which is also totally special occasion worthy and my favorite restaurant in metro Detroit.
I was somehow beyond lucky enough to be invited into the dry aging room by Walter the butcher who is pretty much the bomb. (Go follow him on Instagram @wmapple75 for some major meaty goodness). He’s so knowledgeable about meat and the nicest guy. As a home cook, I love learning about products and processes from restaurants that I can sometimes incorporate in my own home.
As you can tell from these pictures, I was pretty much elated to have the honor of checking out the dry aging room which is a masterpiece. Unique, once in a lifetime (well, hopefully not exactly once in a lifetime 😉 ) opportunities like this are what I live for and to celebrate a special occasion in that way started my 28th year off right.
I celebrated with my parents and our friends and it was a spectacular night. One that was pretty much perfect and for which I am eternally grateful.
I’m sorry to say I haven’t been back to Prime and Proper since, but I can sense an upcoming visit, especially if Walter lets me back in the meat locker!
Do you have a little white dress?

Dying to know what that green cocktail was (and even better if you’ve got a Laura spin on how to make it)! 😊 Great dress too!

The green cocktail was a mixture of champagne, pineapple, and obviously something to make it green that I can’t remember. I love making cocktails and should totally make one like this!
