The Detroit Zoo is a really special place that if you are ever in the area, you should definitely check out. They, in particular, know how to celebrate holidays. The zoo is known for one of the best Christmas light displays in the area and they have a lot of fun with Halloween as well.
I visited recently on a beautiful day in early October. It was surprisingly hot and sunny, a welcome break from chilly fall weather. Many of the animals were out, though the polar bear was in for the day.
The grounds alone are beautiful. It’s fun to walk around and get steps in while taking in the sights and sounds. Dad mentioned they used to let peacocks run wild, and it was barely five minutes later that we encountered one.
They are friendly and stunning. Who wouldn’t want to spend a day hanging out with such majestic creatures?
I wore one of my favorite new-ish dresses with a pair of shoes that treated me quite well considering I walked over three miles. The hat didn’t quite go with my attire, nor the zoo’s, but it was a necessary component of sun protection.

What a gorgeous day and you looked like you enjoyed the visit. It was cool to walk with the peacock. Your Great Uncle Forrest (better known as Jock) lived on an estate with peacocks and I saw them as a child. We would collect their feathers as they were so beautiful! I love our Cincinnati Zoo. I remember you coming down as a young girl and us visiting Festival of Lights at our zoo…. It was much, much colder than the day you had for your visit….LOL!

Oh, no way – that is so cool about the peacocks. I did not know that story. I also remember when we visited the Cincinnati Zoo … and that Mom lost my gloves lol!

You had to be the best dressed girl at the zoo. 🙂
